zebra shark
|
The Aquarium Department was thrilled when a zebra shark pup hatched on July 1, 2002. This was the first zebra shark pup hatched at SeaWorld San Diego. At hatching, zebra sharks measure about 8 to 10 inches. They display vivid black and white bands as juveniles, which fade to spots as adults. In fact, adults and juveniles appear so different, they were once thought to be two different species. Even now, adults are called by a different name: Australian leopard sharks. The full-grown Australian leopard shark can reach a length of about 8 feet. Australian leopard sharks are oviparousthey are one of the species of sharks that lay eggs. Some shark species are viviparous; that is, they have live birth. |
